I am certified as a Sexuality Educator with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists since 1995. I serve on the Advocacy Committee, I have also served on the CE Approval Committee, and was the chair for the Summer Institute in 2009.
I received my certification as a Life Coach from the Coach Training Alliance in early 2008. I am certified as a Relationship Coach with the Relationship Coaching Institute.
I received my Masters of Social Work degree, graduating with highest distinctions, from Indiana University in 1987. My study concentration was social policy and social justice.
I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree, graduating with honors, from Indiana University in 1986.
Since 2002 I have worked as an adjunct faculty instructor teaching Human Sexuality at Indiana University in Indianapolis in the Physical Education department. I recently added a course to my teaching roster called "How to Teach about Sexuality" to be offered on the campus. I have taught Advanced Social Policy to MSW students in the Graduate School of Social Work at Indiana University in Indianapolis.
From August 1987 to August 2008, I worked at Planned Parenthood of Indiana. My role there was vice president of education and training. I have been blessed to have had the responsibility and joy of doing work there to promote sexual health and literacy. Prior to doing this work I lobbied for Planned Parenthood at the state and national level.
I have also lobbied for the Indiana Chapter of the National Organization for Women and Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
In 1992, I was recognized as Best New Education Director by the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education. The Indiana Council on Adolescent Pregnancy awarded me with the Marilyn Green Award in 1997 for outstanding service in promoting programs to prevent adolescent pregnancy. I was recognized as the 2001 Education Director of the Year by the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education.
I was a member of the editorial board for the American Journal of Sexuality Education 2005-2009. I have served on various boards, including serving as vice-president for the Friends of the Kinsey Institute, secretary for the board of the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education, and president of the board of STEP-UP, an HIV prevention organization. I was president of the Indiana Council on Adolescent Pregnancy, and I served on the board of the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Organization for Women, as well as the board of the Indianapolis Campaign for Healthy Babies.
